We committed and submitted our application to America World on June 29, 2010. We decided to adopt a child from Ethiopia. We were accepted into America World’s Ethiopia program July 13, 2010 and started to work on the home study and all the paperwork required.
We were referred to Adoption Home Studies and Kelly to complete our home study. As nervous as we were, and feverishly preparing for the home inspection – immediately upon meeting Kelly, she put us at ease. Kelly walked us through all of the preparations to bring our daughter home, helped us think through things we may not have anticipated, shared valuable resources we needed after bringing our daughter home. Kelly was there celebrated with us when Lily Kenna was finally able to join our family. Her expertise and guidance was invaluable during our process.

We vividly remember the day we went to a Starbucks to meet our social worker to begin the home study process for our first adoption. We were so nervous and anxious to get started after just attending the orientation for our adoption agency in Texas. The minute we met Kathy, we knew we were in excellent hands!! She was so kind and personable. We felt so comfortable and left that meeting knowing she would be great to work with! Kathy was wonderful throughout the whole process and completed our home study in a very organized and efficient manner! We looked forward to and enjoyed the post placement visits after adopting our baby girl! Three and a half years later, as we were ready to begin the adoption process again with our agency. Our youngest is 2 and a half and we still keep in touch with Kathy as we are so grateful for her part in both of our adoptions. We fully enjoyed working with Mary on home study. I recall how the idea of a home visit actually ended up making us nervous - who would come by? what exactly were they "looking" for? My wife insisted that we clean the whole house! (In hindsight, think that was a trick to get me to dust and mop) Needless to say, Mary made the home visit and the entire process a relaxed and helpful process. She was able to answer our questions and talk us through what normally happens during an adoption process. We realized we had an ally to help us, not an "inspector" to investigate us. My suggestion is to enjoy Mary and skip the house cleaning.
